My rear bowtie has the same water damage underneath, is there an easy way to take the rear chrome bar off with the bowtie to paint the bowtie? I don't want to chance overspray on the car. There probably is a previous thread but I'm not able to find it

Yes, exactly the same as yours. Being redundant here, but water gets behind it (probably made worse by freezing/thawing) and the silver paint on the backside flakes off. They are attached mainly by RTV in the middle, so all the edges are susceptible. My old truck looks fine, so guess they "forgot" how to do it right. I buffed off all the old paint on the backside, applied candy apple red, and then chrome silver. Then coated the entire backside with mil-spec RTV.

It kinda makes you wonder: If they can't even make the symbol of the brand right how can they make a vehicle right?
I have had my HHR for over 3 years now and have not had any issues with the bowties. I live in a low humidity region so maybe that has something to do with it.
As a preventative measure could a bead of silicone be applied around the edge to seal it up so that moisture does not get in?
