hi all you hhr lovers! new to bowtie here got my 2lt last friday and love it i only have 344 miles on it but if i stop from say 65mph the steering wheel shakes and the whole car rumbles like an ol clunker with warped rotors im new to abs but is it maybe because my pads are not seated due to mileage? should i worry? has anyone else had this problem?

 

If you have not added any different wheels then it appears you need the rotors resurfaced. ABS will not cause vibration/pulsation while stopping. ABS will help you stop under control though.

 

I had a similar thing when stopping from high speeds it should shake just a little bit. I don't recall the steering wheel moving bunch, but it definitely felt like the car wanted to bounce around a bit.

I haven't noticed it since I took my trip to Chicago last weekend. I started out with 420 miles on it and came back with 800. I think somewhere on that trip my brakes decided to start working correctly. I'm not an expert, but this was my experience.

I'd give it a couple hundred more miles if you don't feel in danger and see if it fixes itself.

 

How short of a distance were you stopping from 65? If it's habitual, then you'll definately be needing new brakes real quick.

Here's what the owners manual states:

Avoid making hard stops for the first 200 miles (322 km) or so. During this time the new brake linings are not yet broken in. Hard stops with new linings can mean premature wear and earlier replacement. Follow this breaking-in guideline every time you get new brake linings.

 

Well it can, but when it does cause something like that its rather extreme. I had a relay or something (I was like 17 at the time and was just learning about cars so sorry don't quite remember) go bad on my old chevy caprice, it was bucking like a bronco, so you wouldn't be able to drive if it was that.

There have been a few threads on brake shudder. Most of the time it is rotors, like mine. It goes in for new rotors next week as they warp easily. All covered.

 

yea the rotor issue has been discussed to the fullest..nothing to be majorly worried about. it's a warranty fix from what i understand. see what happens and if need to take it to the shop.

All I can say is if you only have 344 miles on your HHr then back to the Dealership it goes and get it fixed, This happen to a lot of us it happen to me a few times and the Dealership fixed the problem don't wait get it fixed. If you have a good Dealership they will fix it ASAP. Good luck and drive safe.
