Bad Tires Or Wheel Bearings ???
#2
2. Check for uneven wear.
3. With the tires lifted off the ground, shake the wheels to see if there's any play. If so, the wheels bearings may be out.
4. If no play, it's possible that the tires are out of balance.

At a slow speed and in an area where you can drive in a circle, make a slow left turn and listen for growling noise, now try it making a sharp right. That puts a load on the the bearings and that is when it is most noticeable. IS it quite below and above 35 mph? you would still have tire noise at a higher speed also. Hope it isn't something in the trans axle.

How many miles will the balance the wheels and do alignment before they hit you up for $$? I used to think it was 12K miles
My car makes all sorts of noises and has a jittery ride...weird howling noise which sounds like the wind but have no idea what it is...I hope it is nothing in the drive train...I've driven 4 or 5 HHR's and this is the only one that makes this noise
Not too pleased..and not looking forward to a dealer telling me "shrug" dunno..normal noise I guess

It took 5 months to get my metallic clank sound in the front end diagnosed and fixed.
Apparently it had a bad hub - the service writer said it was a bad bearing, the work order said hub.
I sometimes have a jittery ride, but it's not constant. Might be the road or the crappy Firestones might not work well at certain temps.

Sometimes it takes a couple of trips. I never get dinged diagnostic fees for anthing that would be covered under warranty if they found it.
When I get the "can't reproduce the problem" response, I drive it more so that the problem becomes more obvious (without compromising our safety).
Then when I take it back they can reproduce it. That's what happened with the hub/bearing.
Weren't there others on here that had the howling noise problem?
