Not sure what you mean by instructions? It's just a regular automotive battery(with a vent tube) located in the rear of the vehicle. What are you asking exactly?

Thanks for the reply. I just went out and studied it. My vent tube was split at the end and not hooked up. I fixed it with electrical tape for now.

O need to disconnect the negative post to try to reset my computer for starters. Is it safe to use pliers?

I gather that my questions seem foolish to you but this install with rhe vwnt, in the back, bolted and with a fuse, is very different than anything i have seen before.

Thanks, hollym

It is safe to use pliers, but I always use a socket. I think it's a 10mm.

You can use pliers if you need to, but I think it's a 10mm nut. The right wrench might make the job easier for both you and the nut.

Leave it disconnected for a couple of minutes, too, to draw down any residual power. I used to have to do that a lot on my last car (lots of codes, lots of times). Finally, it will turn over a LOT before finally starting, and that is also normal for this process...

If you mean using pliers to gently wiggle the terminal off of the battery once you've loosened it, that won't cause any problems.

The vent tube is one of the things needed to keep potentially explosive gasses from the battery out of the passenger area, so you might want to get a new vent tube at your local auto parts store...only a couple of bucks at most.

That 50 amp fuse is the positve cable surge protection so that you don't blow the fuse center under the hood with a short, never hear of one blowing unless there's a big problem.

Little things like the rear mounted battery make the HHR different from the crowd.

Thanks all. I cannot find my socket set, am just having one pf those days. Channellocks got the retaining nut off without dinging it too much.

I can sure get a new vent tube if you think so. Do you just feed it down imto that hole in the floor or do I need to connect it somehow? Hopefully the computer will rwset and I can get to autozone. I would like to take it so that rhey can run codeps and test the battery.

Sorry for typos, using phone internet today.

Thanks SO much.

hm.......very frightened of electricity

Yup, the tube just pushes into the hole in the spare tire well, simple as can be.

The 12V electrical system in the HHR won't zap you, but be super careful not to let a tool or anything else contact both battery terminals at the same time....there will be fireworks.

autozone wants $20 and is probably special order at your local store. You probably can get it for around $10 if you shop around, try Ebay, Amazon etc. Don't touch the tube in cold weather, it gets really brittle.

Or they might throw in a new tube with the battery like they did last week for us on the Panel, of course every Autozone is different, some are really good...some aren't.
