Battery Life

I replaced mine for piece of mind about a year or so ago. It was hard to start one day after sitting for a week. Today's cars rarely will give you the slow start as an early sign, they just don't start one day....
One thing nice about the stick, I can at least push start it....

Solman- yes you got that advantage with the stick shift,...
Was it connected to the undehood connections ? or on the actual battery by the spare tire ?

I think I am just gonna wait and let the battery go when it wants too

I did that with my 1987 Mustang Gt 5 speed once. The battery had died overnight while parked in my garage. My driveway was about 100 feet long and sloped downward slightly toward the street. I started it rolling down the driveway, jumped in, popped the clutch and it started. Hope I don't have to do that with the HHR.

Not sure what type of tool was used on ChevyGrlAlways' vehicle but I doubt if the underhood connections would give usable results with a conventional load tester due to the resistance caused by the distance those connections are from the battery. The test should be conducted with the tester connected directly to the battery.
