Question Brake Headache

I am having a heck of a time with my brakes. They squeak BAD. I took it into the dealer I bought it from and they showed me where they had just replaced the pads before I bought it. they said "Some discs just squeak". I went a few more weeks and took it back in. They then showed me the pads and showed me what was left on them 1/4 inch is what they said. I'm a girl so I am partially clueless. They also said they do not cover brakes under my warranty because they are not factory. Is it normal for brakes to squeak? It sounded like baloney, but I have no idea. Any input is appreciated

Is there any preclusion about the brakes written in the contract/warrany coverage?
Is there another dealer nearby?

Assuming you haven't changed the brakes yourself.

No preclusion. I think I'm being lied to. I'm taking it to another dealer. It also is having hail damage repair done this week. Do you know how much weight can go on top?

Not sure about exact number, but not much. Maybe 100 pounds?

Do you have the rack SYSTEM required to put weight on the roof?
Not just the roof rails.
If so, it should clarify weight restrictions/limit.
PS. The brakes are crap, had mine turned at 6,000 mi. squeak came back about 200 mi. later.

Thanks for the info. I do not have the rack system. Just the rails. I didn't know if a small, soft vinyl carrier with beach towels and blankets could be out on top. Going to the beach! I am going to have them just replace the brakes no matter if they are covered. There is only 25,000 mi on the car, but the squeal is getting to me! Thanks!

Hello Sunybuny, I've read your post and the replies and something doesn't make sense. Your HHR has 25000 miles on it and the dealer replaced the brakes before you bought it? I assume you bought it used. How many miles did it have on it when you bought it? Normally, without a mechanical problem, modern disc brake pads do not wear out in less than 25k miles unless there has been severe abuse. The squeal could be because the dealer replaced pads without resurfacint the rotors and/or used inferior aftemarket pads or both. Also, you may have a haudraulic problem with the brake calipers that is wearing the pads prematurerly. This can also lead to brake squealing. Was this a new Chevy dealer who sold the car and installed the brakes?

Brakes shouldn't squeak until the pads wear out (then they squeak on purpose). Try different pads.

Break Noise

Just turned over 27,000 miles on my HHR. Rotors have been turned THREE times by the dealer as of this date.
I rotated the tires last week, I pulled the caliper on the left side to take a look at pad life. To my surprize they are only about half worn. I guess I don't use the breaks to hard ????
All the above are true in your case. Doesn't GM transfer warranty coverage to second owner ? If I can get dealer to turn rotors three times you should be able to get some help ? Good luck
