Brake Shudder Update
https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/problems-service-repairs-42/downhill-bad-brakes-2551/
The above thread is about the shudder problem I've encountered with my HHR. What I've done up to this point is install a set of Street Plus pads on the front discs.
Today, I went again to Chattanooga to the same mountain roads that I had encountered the worst of the shudder. I had no shudder today. In fact, I haven't noticed any shudder since I've replaced the pads.
I know a lot of folks are advocating "hot spots" and "warped" rotors. Some of you may actually have these problems. I've had no reason to believe there was any problem with my rotors. The shudder was too intermittent.
If any of you that are having the same problem would consider changing out your pads to see what your results are, I would appreciate. The only option I have to confirm my observations is to put the original pads back on the car. That I'm not going to do.
