Brand new programmed key fobs just stopped working.

Hey all. Got the dreaded call tonight from my wife saying that she cannot disarm the car with the fob, and had to use the key to get in. I told her about the unlock, then lock, then unlock trick, but the alarm still went off. Thankfully it went off when she started the car.
When she got home, I tried the other 2 fobs I have. The other new fob, and the original old one that came with the car.

(I took the original fob apart and added the tin foil to the contacts, and it worked great. We took it to the dealer to have two more new ones I bought programmed, and they worked fine for weeks)

.....and now. all three don't work.

How can this be?
I get that maybe one might lose its memory....but all three?
Is this a common issue? or has the car just decided to forget....?

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
Cheers.

I Will call the dealer tomorrow. I am just worried about the original fob not working.....The 2 new ones they programmed fine....but why would the original one not work?
I hope they don't try to grind me for a reflash now.....

I called the dealer and he said that he has never heard of my problem before. He said that he feels it must be the fobs, but could not say why my original fob quit.
I am skeptical.
I will have to take it down there on Sat to have them look at it. Hopefully it will just need programming again.....

Also, I took the back off one of the new fobs, and noticed something that I had not seen on the old one. A flashing red light on the back of the circuit board. What is that for? To let me know that the battery is still working?
Anyone else noticed that?

Interesting issue..For the heck of it did you change the battery? I know it is a dumb question but we have been having issue with some home heat sensor alarms calling in with low battery 1 month after new batteries were installed, Either way please post what you find ,,Thanks

Regarding the flashing light on the circuit board.......

I'm guessing, but couldn't the flashing light indicate something wrong with the programming? You know, not reading a signal, etc. Seems more logical a light on the INSIDE of the remote would be for diagnostics such as programming. I would remove the battery for a couple of minutes and reinstall to see if there are changes (or install a new one).

I would guess new batteries were installed when the dealer reprogrammed since, I'm told, the replacement remotes are shipped without a battery. But you never know about a dealer's inventory.

Thanks for the replies.
No the battery on the car has not been changed nor ran dead.
As for the new fobs. They ship with new batteries installed already. All the dealer did was program them. I never opened one up till last night when I saw the blinking red light. I paused for a moment recalling an episode of 24......lol

Question for you....

Your profile indicates you have a 2007 HHR. The eBay add says it's for a 2009. Could it be the wrong one? My FOB for my 2006 has a part number of 15114374....but I do have the remote start as well.

Also, using the eBay site.....I changed the model year from 2009 to 2007. It says it is not compatible with the 2007.

Good question.
I noticed that before buying the fobs. Why no listing for the 2007? I went on to compare the part numbers from my original remote with the ones for sale and they matched.
I also called the dealer to confirm the part number for my old fob to make sure it is the right one to begin with.
All numbers match.
Also, the remote start ones have a diff number as they are a 4 button fob.
Thanks though.
