Busted door handle

Busted door handle
I just went to open my door to get out of the car, and it wouldn't work. Turns out the metal snapped that connects the inside door handle to the lock pull. Now to get out of the car I have to roll down my window and open the door from the outside. I am sure that it is not in stock and will have to be special ordered from the dealer.
Anybody else have this problem?????

I checked and it is just the part of the chrome handle where the able goes into it. They appear to be the same for both the front and rear doors on the drivers side. Should be easy enough to repair once they get the part.

This is my broken handle compared to a good one. I just went to my Chevy dealer and they ordered a new one. Unfortunately it will take a week to get. Until then, I have to roll down my window and open the door from the outside. Hope it doesnt rain until then

Well, the part finally came in yesterday after being back-ordered all this time (nearly 3 weeks). And guess what? The door handle itself is not replaceable. They had to change the entire door panal. The small chrome door handle is fused to the panal itself and not a separate part. The good news is that it only took them less than 30 minutes.
Let's hope nobody else runs into this problem.

Thanks for the heads-up Lee... that SUCKS! Figures parts are constantly backordered - prolly had to come from Mexico too!
Although it's nice to have chrome accent pieces throughout vehicle, when they're really only shiney plastic... (IMO) they're prone to failure more often. Your pic's demonstrate the problem EXACTLY!!

I know. I checked out the panal after the dealer removed it. The handle is plastic-welded in place. It could probably be changed by itself but it would have to be epoxied from behind. Years ago the power window on my wifes Saturn broke. I took it apart and the problem was a plastic pin that attached the motor arm to the window slide. It was not available separately. I had to buy the entire assembly-motor, arm, and everything for close to 2oo bucks. All for a cheap plastic rivit that was about 1/2 inch long.
I later spoke to a friend that worked at BMW and he told me that on their cars the piece is sold for about 1 dollar. It shows how some manufacturers rip off their customers.
