Could very well be that he has a blend door problem also Oldblue. Not unheard of to have more than 1 thing wrong when you have an AC problem.

Going back to the original post of high compressor head pressure, then the fact that the cooling fan isn't working, I think these have to be addressed 1st.

At this point you need to know which model you are working on because the fans are different. Can I assume that you can tell if the car has a turbo? That would make it an SS, with different parts from a LS/LT.
Oh yeah , I know I sound like a newbie or " Greenhorn " as we were called in the day . But I've actually been wrenching since I was a kid ( now a 50 yr old kid lol !) no it's not an ss ( no turbo ) , Is there a certain procedure on this particular vehicle for testing the fan to see why it's not coming on in a/c mode ?. Btw I didn't know that the fan was actuated when in a/c mode , learned something there , Thanks .

The test is to hotwire the fan, or just check for power with a VOM.

The A/C is on when in defrost mode with no indicator light, also when in recirc mode, or when the A/C button is pressed. That's why winter MPG is lower.

The radiator fan is always on when the A/C is on.

If the radiator fan is not on when the compressor is running the refrigerant will not get cooled down, causing trouble.

I think the 2006 has a fan relay.
