a/c clutch hub is missing...
The a/c clutch hub is gone!
Of course the a/c quit blowing cold so had a friend check it for me.
Can not tell if the shaft is broken off or just a bolt came loose.
Any help appreciated.
Thanks, Jim

Exactly what kind of help are you looking for ?
If you know the clutch hub is missing, then you know the problem.
We can't tell you over the Internet if it's a broken shaft or not. That's just something you'll have to look and see for yourself.

Buying just the a/c clutch is getting harder to do these days.
I needed one a few months ago but the only way to get it was with a new compressor.
So it may not matter if it's broke or if the bolt fell out you may just have to replace the compressor anyway.

Ditto to all of the above Jim.
But if it makes you feel just a tiny bit better, back in '86 the A/C in my Camaro pooped out, and when I found a safe place on I-77 to pull over and look. The whole dang compressor was gone!
I'd heard a thud right after the A/C quit, that was the compressor going under the car when it fell off, of course it was a typical 100° July afternoon in NC.
Lucky hit it on the head, you're looking at replacing the compressor, these days they're pretty much a "disposable" part.

new compressor check the alt and any attaching hoses and wire harnesses to the compressor for damages then get on the parts store, dealer or E-bay for the replacement parts required to fix the issue!! and I'd replace the serpentine belt also! I found compressor clutch kit $150.00 ish and complete new compressor $150.00 to $450.00 on E-bay just a quick search

(Had a DVT and been in the Hospital a couple times)
Anyway wanted to know if it is possible for a do it yourself guy to replace just the clutch asy.
The A/C was working fine till the front hub of the clutch disappeared. Pulley is still there and belt is fine. But it will get a new belt what ever I have to do.
Only have 59,000 miles.
Just curious if anyone else has had this happen on their 2.4L...?
Again thanks for all the replies and maybe this will help to understand my unique circumstance.
Jim
