A/C Issue

I have 2008 HHR - the a/c stops blowing when the car comes to a stop. As you speed up the A/C starts blowing again. Baffled!!!! Please assist, Thanks in advance.

Your system may be low on charge for whatever reason, your best bet is to have it checked out by an A/C specialist in your area.

There is circulation air that comes through the air vents when the car is moving. It stops flowing when the car stops. It is not produced by the blower fan.
Maybe that is the air flow you're losing?
Check to make sure your blower fan and motor are actually working. The air flow you have now may just be that circulation air from the outside mixed with the AC cold output.

That's actually backwards. If the system was low on charge but still had enough to engage the compressor at idle, the low side pressure would drop as engine rpm increased causing the compressor to disengage when that pressure became too low and engage again when the vehicle returnes to idle.

According to his post the OP is apparently losing the A/C at idle, then regaining it at speed, but we do need more info.

Admittedly my knowledge of automotive HVAC is a bit out of date since my days of servicing systems at a Firestone store ended in the late 80's. We used the following list for a "no cold air" or "loses the air" complaints.

Customer Complaint...Insufficient Cool Air

Check For...

Low refrigerant charge

Loose drive belt

Slipping compressor clutch

Clogged condenser

Clogged evaporator

Slow leak in system

Partially clogged filter or expansion valve

Hopefully we'll get more details from the OP soon.

What's a little confusing is that he says 'stops blowing' and 'starts blowing again'. Not sure if he means blowing cold or blowing period. Need more info. If he's losing the airflow that wouldn't have anything to do with refrigerant.

Exactly. That's why I posted what I did previously.
I read it to mean that the blower fan was not working correctly, or at all. Hopefully the OP will come back and post up some more precise details.

dont mean to jack the thread..but whats the difference between having the AC on and having the inside air circulate at cold temp..if i select the inside circulation, the compressor turns on as well..so whats the purpose of having both?

That is covered in the OM. When you turn the mode switch to defrost the A/C runs the A/C light does not illuminate. When you push the recirc button the A/C is turned on the A/C light does not illuminate. Basically it's to save you from fogging up the windows whilst saving energy by not illuminating the LED.

I believe the concept of recirculate is to produce a desired result when directed at female passengers on those really hot days, then again I may be misusing the control.
