That is very interesting. I would advise that you take it into your dealership to have it looked at. If you would like me to set up that appointment for you please just private message me your name, address, vehicle identification number, and current mileage.

Thanks,

Not trying to stir things up, but I'm a little offended by these generic responses.
(the same responses Chevrolet Customer Service,CCS gives to all problems)

Why offended? Because, the good folks here offer suggestions and hints to try to help people with their problems. Then CCS will jump in and say "Take it to the dealer".
It gives the impression that CCS thinks the folks here don't know anything and a HHR has to "go to the dealer" for anything to be fixed or repaired.
Sorry but that just ain't so.

OK. I got my rant out. I'll get off the soapbox now.

Oh, go ahead, stir things up. I'm with you on that one. The post-Michelle CCS hasn't really done anything but leave superfluous responses to random threads and offer to 'help' by collecting your personal information or suggesting that you take your likely out of warranty vehicle to the GM dealership. In many cases the question/concern has already been answered or the thread is old. I am also offended; and not 'just a little'. Whatever marginal usefulness they may have ever had here has been outlived IMO.

Not to mention the "no bumping" rule.

I have a 2006 HHR with a/c issues. Last year I had the a/c recharged at an auto shop. This year the a/c was running cool, not cold so my brother used an over the counter a/c bottle of Freon and this worked about 3 weeks until today. There is NO cool air. Its the same temp as outside temp. I got home and spent 15 minutes trying to fill the a/c myself using the leftover bottle. NO LUCK. I have read the thermostat may need replacing? What should I tell the auto shop? What should the steps for repair be? In Logical order? Thanks for any help..

If you had the system recharged a year ago and a year later you needed to add refrigerant and it's not cold three weeks later, you have a leak (or leaks). You need to have the system checked for leaks. Rather than a 'auto shop' I'd suggest an A/C specialist with proper HVAC test and repair equipment.

A/C recharging is best left to those who know what they are doing, buying an over the counter bottle does not make one an expert. Don't try to add freon if that is not the problem, too much is as bad as too little.

However, watch you temp gauge. If it is either too low or too high the A/C compressor may not function. This may be a cause for a thermostat.

This assumes that the coolant level is correct, has anyone ever checked it? I'm betting "no".

My thoughts were since charging it make it blow cold last year and adding refrigerant made it blow cold for three weeks that there has to be a refrigerant leak.

I was talking mainly the radiator coolant. You may be right, but a can of freon is dangerous in the wrong hands on many levels.

I'm saying 'refrigerant' (A/C) to distinguish from 'coolant' (engine). The term 'freon' that people use generally as a generic term for refrigerant is actually a DuPont brand name for specific refrigerants, R-134a not bieing one of them (that would actually be DuPont Suva if using the brand name). Personally, I don't think they should sell any refrigerant to unlicensed individuals.
