If you let it idle in park you will notice the same thing. At low/idle RPMs the compressor will either cycle. Actually almost if not all newer cars do this. The load of the compressor at idle effects emissions, you will also notice it if you hold the car at wide open throttle long enough for the air temp to change. at wide open throttle the compressor cycles off to reduce parasitic horsepower losses.

So yes its normal............

I do the same thing when I'm pulling into my driveway too. I noticed it a couple of times when it would idle down to around 1000RPM

The A/C cmpressor is driven by the engine to circulate the refrigerant more it needs higher then idle speeds. Also the condensor that disapates the heat to the outside air is located in front of your rad. So for it to work at full efficiency it needs more air flow, that you get from driving not as good at idle. That is why at low RPM and/or low speed the a/c might not feel as cold.

When I drive in reverse the dash vents suck air in and blow it out intake at the cowling. Weird......

Can't imagine that the AC would shut down when in neutral, that would make no sense. My 07 is a five speed, so its forever going through neutral, but the AC runs very solid all the time. I can even leave my wife in the car, with the engine at idle and the ac runs great for 10 minutes or more, even when its in the mid to high 90's. I have her watch the coolent temp, and if it goes past 220 she will shut the car off, but it never goes past 195 or so. Its probably one of the better air conditioners I've had in any car, and I'm pretty old, so I've had lots of different cars over the years. I frankly am just plain impressed with the whole car.
