Question A/C recirculating button issue.

I have a 2008 HHR 2.4. the recirculating system button is not working, turns on, but that is not working because even on, I can smell the smoke from cars, odors, etc. inclusive, the fan does not seems to make any diference in noise.
Do any of you have had a problem like this? Any suggestions to try? Thank you.
greetings.

You will get some out side smells because it does not seal it all off. Cars have to have so much out side air coming in by law.

Now the fan should come on and blow a little harder though. You should hear that.

Hi hiperv6, I know what you say, but the air is always coming from outside and the there is no any diference with the fan.

I believe the recirculate button does two things, one: turns the compressor on even if you have not turned it on, two: operates a vaacum operated damper door to block outside air, or a percentage of it, from entering the cabin. If the damper door is working, you should hear more fan noise when its set to recirculate. If its an 08, and you are still under warrantee, I wouldn't do anything, but take it back to the dealer.

If there is a problem with the door shutting you need to get it fixed while under warranty. It is a solid 8 hour job to fix it.
