Camphaser spring mix up.

Hi there,

This is my first thread, I am Jacob and live on Curacao N.A.
My water pump was leaking and I had no tool to hold it so I took away the timing chain cover.
Inside I found a lot of sludge, so I removed the camshaft cover to and clean this mess.
I also disassemble the cam phasers but I am not sure witch spring belongs in witch phaser..
One of them is longer, I order a new timing chain kit with phasers but this can take over 6 weeks.
I need to drive it so I have to do the job two times.

Sorry for any mistakes in my writing.
I hope someone can help me.

With kind regards.
Jacob.

I don't think the phasers are made to be taken apart. There are no instructions in the service manual.

Welcome to the site, nope the solenoids are not to be disassembled.
You have a 50/50 chance if putting them back together correctly

Thanks Oldblue, its very easy to take them apart. I had to do it because of the sludge in my engine.
I reassemble them and see what happens, it seems nobody on the forum has taken these apart.

That because they are easy to replace , so why take them apart?

I live on Curacao, I need the car to drive. Between ordering and getting my parts takes over 6 weeks.

I’m Canadian and frugal, so I bought an 07 2.2 so it doesn’t have VVT Solenoids .

I know what you meant, I have never heard of anyone taking them apart, The shop manual says they are not repairable.

BTW; they are called "actuator, camshaft position" , Ford calls theirs phasers, they are a different thing, but do the same thing.

If the sludge was that bad, how could the VVT work? I imagine the Check Engine Light was being ignored for a very long time. Cheaper to change the oil regularly.

# donbrew, I bought the car recently and I change the oil but no indication off sludge.
The engine light was burning and also the TC and ABS lights. a gay did a computer check but did only reset the computer.
Now I bought myself a scan tool and now I now the codes, I did order a complete timing chain kit but this takes over 6 weeks to get it here.
I realy don't now if the actuators where working because of the poor maintenance by the last owner.
I found the performance of the car very poor, I hope for better performance if everything is ready.
