cant figure where the coolant leak is
#22
3 places for coolant to go; out the tail pipe, into the oil sump and onto the ground.
How did one of the coolant tanks get cracked? That is not a normal fault. I can't think of a explanation short of a collision.
And just how is this "the same problem"? The OP sees puddles but for some reason can't see any sign of a leak.

I'm assuming the tank cracked because the rubber standoff that the bottom of the radiator sits in wore out and fell off along the way somewhere. So that made it loose. Either that or it was defective (I replaced it about 2 years ago).
I am NOT seeing puddles, but I am smelling coolant when I'm stopped.
After searching the internet I have found reference to the cooling tube that runs from the thermostat to the back of the water pump and the O rings leaking.
My compression is great for a high mileage engine. I tried to get a local shop to check it out and do a pressure test but I was informed that it requires some sort of special adapter that they didn't have and snap on said they could have it in a couple of weeks. If anyone knows about this mysterious adapter please give me some details!

There is a tube that runs from the pump to the t-stat housing that has an O-ring on each end. The pump bearing could be bad and leak through the weep hole at the top. There is a rubber cap on the un used nipple of the t-stat housing that has been known to get a pin hole leak. Since the compression is great it couldn't possibly be a head gasket leak. a worn out pressure cap can leak steam. Any pin hole will let steam out.
The mysterious adapter is a loaner at AZ/Advance etc.
