If it were me, I would. But that's me. If you don't want to spend a lot on the new oil, put in Exxon Superflo. Good conventional oil at bargain prices.

OR, if you have an O'Reilly Auto Parts near you they are running a mail-in rebate program in July that makes some of the oil they sell (Mobil Clean 5000 is one) free after mail-in rebate. The PDF file in the 2nd link tells what oils have the rebates that make them free after rebate.

Ok here's the scoop, Per the label on the back of Castrol 5W-30 it states Exceeds .API Service SM/SL/SJ/SH,API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils, ILSAC GF-4/GF-3/GF-2,Ford WSS-M2C929-A and GM6094M . I also spoke with 3 differant service Advisors from 3 differant Chevrolet Dealers and each one of them said there is no service bulleten about Castrol not meeting GM Specs.

Years ago there were still Union Service Stations around here. They had a motor oil called "Royal Triton", and it was purple. I was just wondering if it's the same oil as what you use now? Sure sounds like it with just a name change! Used to use it all the time 'til it wasn't around anymore.

I don't think so...it is not connected to any of the oil companies that I know of. I was turned on to it years ago by a fellow Harley rider and I have been using it ever since then in everything I have ridden or driven. http://www.royalpurple.com/prodsa/rpmoa.html

I am not picking sides to should you use it or not or does it meet, but my quesion is how old is the bottle you looked at? Maybe that lable and oil was before may 8 2007? Maybe they no longer meet the standard and you have oil from when it did.
Only asking a question. And I know the first thing said will be how can an oil no longer meet the standard that has all this time. Dont ask me.

Well, that doc is the July 2007 issue of GMTechLink, which is a publication for GM dealership service shops. Pretty recent. Maybe they haven't gotten their bulletins yet?

Well the 5 quart jug I got at Wally World says it meets the spec so that is good enough for me for now..heck It will only be there for a month so.

I wonder what a oil needs to do to meet the spec..I mean what sort of testing? It had to be a pretty big change to have one of the MAJOR players in the oil industry not have their main dino oil meet GM specs...they are they only big player that isn't
