So I find out an idiot mechanic replaced my o2 sensor for no reason...almost $150. So I took it somewhere else and had it looked at. It turns out to my catalytic converter. I had a quote at like $600 and one said he could do it after market for $400. I also heard I can get it done for like $135....could that be true? I know I need it done for inspection but am I damaging anything hard core not fixing it right away?

I won't hurt anything to wait. I have used aftermarket convertors before but sometimes the cheap convertors with keep setting convertor fail codes. if your funds are low you could try the cheap ones just make sure the shop will stand behind it.

First of all... What was the main reason to make that? Did you feel heavy your HHR? Did you have the CEL turned on?

Yeah, my check engine light came on. This is my first car that Ive actually owned and had to take care of myself so Im learning as I go, haha. Anyways my first thought was go to Advance and have them run the test. They told me to replace the O2 sensor, so I did. Then of course the light came back on a few days later...so I paid to have it looked at like I should have in the beginning!

What year and how many miles are on your car? You might still be Covered under Warranty.

Beings your HHR is an 06' it's probably long out of warranty! We replaced our factory DP / (2) Catylitic Converter with an aftermarket DP / High Flow single cat! It set off the CEL within two days (so be careful of the bargain price cat)! Best bet is to got with the replacement that is a factory or factory like peice! This way you'll be back to like new and good to go for a long time !

Read your Owners Manual and accompanying liturature, if you have it. It will list the mileage and time requirement for a separate warranty on emission equipment. It lists the items covered as well.

Yeah I did call the dealership and my warranty is up. It sucks cause I just spent so much on brakes, tune up, etc, etc, haha. I wanna go cheap but Im scared. Jeez, enough with all the money spending already!

I believe Some components are covered by Federal Law for 8 years or 80,000 miles? And I think that Includes the Catalytic Converter. It could have changed recently but that was the law not long ago if it has been changed.

So besides reading your owners manual for some info, you should do some google searches, to arm yourself with some info, then head on over to your local Chevy dealer.

This info may or may not be out of date, but have a read and at the bottom it gives you some things to do if your claim is denied.

Do search for more info tho, as I just did a quicky to find that info I posted a link to for you. You should be able to find newer info.

Your car may be out of warranty, but you may still be covered under federal emissions laws.
Worth it to find out for sure, before shelling out for a cheapy one.
