Changed transmission
#13
Just spoke to a friend who is a tech at Rotolo Chevrolet. No Tech II programming would be necessary for a trans swap but, of course, they had no other advice other than 'bring it in and we'll take a look at it'.

Yes, there was a new module on the new transmission. We did try swapping it for the older one and still had the same problem. I am probably going to end up taking it in to the shop. We've already done the hard part and saved lots of money changing out the transmission ourselves that I can probably stomach the cost of the shop repairs now.

The engine is not turning over at all. The only thing that happens when I attempt to crank it is that the lights and radio shut off, but the poster above says that's normal. I hear no clicking or anything in the engine even attempting to move or start.

Please keep us posted, I am hanging on to a failing tranny myself.

Look under the cover of the "under hood" fuse box for a diagram. Mine says pos. 43 is the trans fuse and pos 26 is a trans relay. I am not an expert, just guessing at things, and I may be misinterpreting the labels. Look for anything that says TCM, trans, drive train, ECM, PCM etc. and check them. It is easy to pop a fuse while blindly plugging in those connectors, is all I'm saying.
I just looked at the "2006 HHR Service Manual" (PM me for info) in the "automatic transmission section" around page 235 for the cable adjustment procedure. Sounds sort of like the neutral/park switch is the problem, although the book describes the opposite, i.e. "starts in gear".
