That's not true these days. Do a search on group III oils, which many "synthetics" are based on. It is a highly refined "dino" oil that acts like a true synthetic. Many synthetics on the market today are group III oils. I'm not in the least implying that today's synthetics are not good... because they are but they are not all produced the way they were in the past.

^^^^^This be true ^^^^^^

I didn't want to add to the "jack" of the thread, however. SO.......

NOW we continue with your regular programming.

If you don't read the label on the oil you buy, can't help anyone with that. But 100% PAO synethic oil is just that, 100% group IV. Granted a lot on the shelf today is not group IV, but group III. group III lists including PAO.

Gotta read the label....

Oil consumption

Well, can't tell you how his is doin, but mine is crap!

06 2.2 with 165K on it. Been using oil at an ever growing rate since about 135K. Currently adding a quart every 1500 miles or so. I'm in outside sales, so lots of short trips and restarts, as well as long trips. Went off 5-30 to 10-40 last change to try to thicken a bit. No noticeable difference. No noticeable smoke running or at startup and no leaking at all. Good power and no noises that would indicate bad things.

Started talking to guys about it. Got some input about PCV valves sucking oil on blow by, but then came here and found the EcoTec has a closed loop system.

Running some Lucas in it now. Quoted overall engine noose enough to notice.

Did some searching for oil consumption and using oil, but didn't really find much except this thread. A little help here anyone?

Thanx!

You might try starting a new thread. It has to be going somewhere, at high mileage my guess would be the tailpipe. Have you asked somebody to follow you down the road and report on smoke?

Yea, new thread now. Thanx!

People have followed me that I know & no "Wow! You're car sure smokes", but not a mission trip for smoke discovery. Thought was there. Just didn't get a round tuition yet. Thanx again!
