charging system question

Hello ALL!!

ok i know everyone does not remember so... i have a 2006 2LT 2.4 liter with 94k.

recently check charging system scrolled on the dash. then systems started shutting down and idiot lights started to flash.

long story, i ended up switching out the battery(at least 7yrs old) then the original alternator and i threw on a new belt.

reset the codes and drove it a bit. the car ran much better. then the wife took it to work about a 30min drive there. she said all was fine. so i thought the headache was gone.

i went to take it out and a little later check charging system reappeared so i took the car home and took my daily. didnt want to be stuck in manhattan!!

when i changed all that i looked at the ground at the battery all looked normal. and the positive to the fusebox and that looked good as well. i will relook at it tomorrow but are there any other spots that i should check???

THANKS IN ADVANCE!!

The small connector and wires on the alternator. Alternators have been known to be bad out of the box. Check the current sensor on the negative cable.

Have you had the charging system checked with a tester ? Or at least hooked up a voltage meter to see what the output is ?
No offense, but your post above sounds like you threw some parts at it but didn't test or do any diagnostics.

And. Reset what codes ? The Check Charging System is not a code but a warning.
(just changing the battery would have reset the computer/codes anyhow)

thanks for the responses!

FMG that was part of my long story. with the original equiptment still on, i had advance and autozone check the system and advance was not able to get any feedback from the alternator so they couldnt diagnose it for me. so i ended up taking the car on a longer trip. it sat a bit then i went to autozone and their diagnostic tool said all was ok. so on my way home the traction control light came on the check engine and so forth i felt the car losing power. but i did make it home. this story is a bit longer but i get you do get it. but i did not take offense. oh a p0171 code appeared after the battery/alternator swap. so i cleared them after. that seems fixed now. sorry i left that out, i didnt add that cause it seems to have been repaired. and i didnt want to muddy the issue.

i will see if i can get it rediagnosed today and check the wires to the alternator.

OH and i forgot to add when under the hood i was smelling an electrical burning smell while the car was running and thought the brushes in the alternator are on their last legs. never smelled it before that and since changed. on other cars i have noticed this and it ended up being the problem.

THANK YOU!

P0171 could’ve been just the MAF wasn’t reconnected.
Did you check any of the other ground points?
it might be a faulty alternator or a faulty battery

yes old blue that was part of my remedy to the p0171! LOL i was real annoyed to see that i didnt tighten the aircleaner assemby to the snorkel properly so it was taking in more air. i guess that i was just trying to get done before the real heat of the day.

i did the search for the ground points. WOW how many does it need!!!! my montes have 2. the battery cable and the block!!!

i will1st get it diagnosed at autozone. i do not want to jack it up if i can help it.

ok got it reevaluated. nothing comes up.

so took apart the positives to the fuse box cleaned them and added dielectric grease. they really were not that dirty but it could be enuff to cause issues i guess.

will go back shortly to check the wires to the alternator. just had to cool down a bit.

Well, got "what" reevaluated ?
Honestly. If you're looking for help or guidance, you should include some details. Alt. output, voltage, etc. Whoever checked it for you should have given you a print out with all the data. I doubt they just said "Nothing comes up "
I might be ranting a little but we're not mind readers. Give us some details.

hello i think the issue has been resolved.

when i went back to donbrews suggestion, i guess i did not tighten the larger wires, i was afraid to overtighten it. it had a small amount of play in the eyehook. so now ive driven it and no alerts nor any codes. my own stupidity was the cause of each of the issues.

as i have been told always check the stupid stuff first!!

AS USUAL THANK YOU!!!
