Check Engine Light

Lucky me the damn thing threw a check engine light on me while showing off the new intake to Jim. At first just thought I miss the gear and it stuttered, but low an behold, it kept doing it. Stopped and restarted the engine, light still on but the car seems to be running fine. At least I live across the street from the dealer, and I was two blocks from the house when it happend.
Going to take it to the dealer in the morning and see what comes up. Kind of throws a wrench into my weekend though...

One thing I thought of while this happened...If the new intake or cat-back didnt cause the problem, the warranty should still be fine correct?

I didn't do anything with you in the car I don't do getting on the freeway...
It's not like I brought it up to redline, I was still well short of that when I shifted.

What intake is it?

The CGS should never cause this.

It wouldn't matter if you hit redline anyway. the HHR has an automatic fuel shutoff at a certain rpm. If you pass that rpm, everything shuts down.

Sounds to me like the fuel shutoff kicked in.
Perhaps that causes it to throw a light as well.

Everything should be fine - but have it checked out anyway.

Its the CGS intake, and the car likes to stutter and sounds like a lawn mower at idle for a few seconds, almost wants to die, but then seemed fine as i slowly drove home. I put the orignal intake back on seeing I need to refit the CGS ayway due to it hitting the hood shock and marring the finish.

Anyone know what pins you jumper to make the check engine light flash the trouble code? I would like to know what the hell is going on or I am never going to sleep tonight.

I swear 3 times at the dealer for different things in less than two months...it's getting old...

CJ told me they took an HHR to AutoZone and those guys threw a code reader on it - and it worked! I'd give that a shot first.

I'm betting it was the fuel shut-off (kicks in at 6750, versus 6800 on the 2.4L). If you triggered the shutoff, it would definitely "sputter" during recovery. Most likely it would then cause the ECU to throw a code for emmisions or fuel malfunction.

Hope it helps,

Thanks for the info. Just have to wait till the morning to find out. Everything is closed now. I should have done that right after it happened instead of limping home. At least the dealer is literally across the street from my house so I can have them throw the code reader on it and see what they say.

Not sure if this will help, but my check engine light went on the other day because my locking gas cap wasn't tight. I disconnected the battery for about a half hour and the light disappeared and has not reappeared. But I did put the old cap on for now. If you do disconnect the battery to see if that will clear the code, make sure you don't shut the rear hatch completely. Otherwise, you'll be like me and have to crawl through the car to get to the battery and cable in order to hook it back up.

BTW...I also have the CGS and have been known to romp on it and that has never happened to me...thank goodness. But the car will cut out if you get near redline like Mike stated above.
