Check gas cap issue.

2011 HHR 2.4L
I have read other threads but still confused what’s going on. This has been coming and going for a few months but never check engine light. The car stumbles or feels weak sometimes during acceleration and if the car is shut off then started back up once in awhile it acts like a struggle
for a few seconds.

Car was just inspected and I scanned it and nothing found. I replaced the gas cap with ACDelco. Wiped out the filler neck which wasn’t dirty. Replaced the evap vent under the hood and the one next to the fuel tank. Problem went away for a week then came back. Other times car has no struggle..

Any ideas? Thanks.

Which AC Delco cap, the GT294? My 2011 had a new generic fuel tank cap, first fill up , I got the fuel cap message. I ordered the new one from RockAuto

Because of the message I kept getting and the gasket was worn out. Hope it isn’t the fuel pump!! What do they normally charge for that to be changed out..
145,000 on the engine right now so when do fuel pumps usually go out?

will have to check receipt on fuel cap for part number.

No, that is likely ok - the 294 is just a reminder for flex-fuel capable cars. And is just a color change.

Also I hear the fuel pump always prime up when I turn the key. Hopefully autozone, advanced has a fuel pressure tester I can rent.

Fuel cap does not produce performance problems, it is to prevent gas fumes getting into the atmosphere, not much to do with fuel delivery.

The engine stuttering on acceleration with no misfire code says fuel starvation to me.

MSRP for pump is $380 + 2.1 hours labor. You can get the pump a lot cheaper.

Saw the write up on it but how easy is it really though to do in your garage? Any issues as to why one would want a shop to do it?
