Climate Control Vent Selector

Hello! I just got a new to me 2011 HHR and I've been having a weird issue with my climate controls. No matter which vents I have the selector knob on it keeps changing to dash vents. If I select defrost it will be on defrost for a few minutes then switch to coming out of the front dash vents. Once it changes it won't change back to defrost or floor no matter how I twist the knob.

If the car sits for a little while after I park it then it seems to start working again. Anyone ever had an issue like this, or have any ideas what could cause this?

Do you use the recirc or flow through setting?
Need a Owner Manual? See the link in my sig.

I’m thinking either a vent door motor has died or the HVAC control panel has an issue!

I use the flow through setting. The panel won't allow the recirc setting with defrost.

Do you have any tips on how I would diagnose which one it could be? I'm not sure where the vent door motor is located.

There are several old threads that show the location of the 3 different diverter door motors. Lots of pictures.
Try a search here, or wait till someone has time to find a link.

Before condemning anything do a system relearn and see what you get.
AC reset
Turn the system on full cold Max AC.
Radio OFF.
Turn ignition OFF.
Pull the HVAC (AC) fuse from interior fuse box. Leave out for 1 minute and replace.
Turn key to run/on position....NOT start.
Do not touch any controls. You'll hear the doors (actuators) being opened and closed. The HVAC module is learning the full open and full close positions. Wait until the system is completely done with the learning process. Less than a minute.
Start and test the system.

I think you're quoting/asking the wrong person.

FYI. The OP has been back here several times after their last post. I'm guessing he or she didn't feel the need to finish the thread.
