Codes: Autozone said prob cylinder head. Could it be evap purge?
Hi. I am having an issue with my 2006 HHR and thought I'd ask y'all if you have any ideas.
Autozone codes today: P0300, P0442, P0455, P0442
At top of printout: "ASE certified technicians have seen this issue on your type of vehicle and the most likely solution is: Replace cylinder head assembly"
My 2006 HHR has been having the following issues: when I have been driving for a while and car is good and warmed up, idle while stopped in Drive gear is a little rough. Starting forward from a stop in drive gear can be a little rough for a second. At this point when warmed up, sometimes in park it sounds like it might stall, but only sometimes. And a couple days ago, it didn't start on the first try after I came out of the grocery.
(Also a couple of times in the last few weeks, the driver side window froze halfway through me rolling it up. Engine restart got it moving again. I doubt it is related, but thought I would toss that in just in case).
All liquid levels are good. It still has less than 100,000 miles on it as well.
Gas cap sits in tank opening, but cannot tighten (been like that a couple months and I will replace this evening). Check engine light has been on for a couple months (came on before the gas cap broke) but I don't drive the veh often, and when i do, its not far, so I left it as it was, as I had no money for diagnosis or repair.
Checking google etc., I see that 0442 and 0455 may indicate that it is Evap Purge Solenoid.
Any thoughts (besides what a bad car owner I am)?
Thanks,
Mercy

P0442 and P0455 might be the EVAP vent valve (under the car near gas tank) OR a bad fuel cap. P0300 may or might not be related.
Did they say if the codes were "current" "pending" "history"?
Pay absolutely no attention to any test you ever read on a OBD2 scan tool.
You should have a compression test done.

A code P0442 most likely means one or more of the following has happened: A loose or improperly affixed gas cap A non-conforming gas cap (i.e. not factory/original brand) A small leak/hole in a fuel vapor hose/tube Other small leak in EVAP system Faulty vent o-ring seal Defective vent valve Defective purge valve Defective leak detection pump Possible Solutions With a P0442, the most common DIY repair is to: Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap (we recommend an OEM original part, not aftermarket part)
With a p0455, the most common repair is to: Remove and reinstall the gas cap, clear the codes, and drive for a day and see if the codes come back. Otherwise, replace the gas cap.
A new gas cap should cure the problem
