Greetings, I need to see if anyone else has had this problem.
Recently, everytime I use my key fob to open my doors the DIC gives me a message of "key fob battery low".
I have changed the battery in both of my key fobs, but I am still getting the message.
Any ideas as to how to clear this or is there another problem going on that I don't know about?

 

hmmmm, ive never seen that message

ive even had a completely dead battery in a FOB, and it still didnt give me that message

maybe there is a way to reset it by disconnecting the battery in the trunk or something

 

When I got that message, it went away when I started the car. We went wherever we were going that day, got the message next time I used the fob, again, it went away when I started the car and we went home. . I changed the battery and haven't seen the message since.

 

Found this, it explains the proces but since you already stated that you replaced the batteries it doesn't explain why it didn't resolve your issue

DTC B3109 00: Keyless Entry Transmitter 1 Low Battery
DTC B3110 00: Keyless Entry Transmitter 2 Low Battery
DTC B3111 00: Keyless Entry Transmitter 3 Low Battery
DTC B3112 00: Keyless Entry Transmitter 4 Low Battery
Circuit/System Description

With each press of a keyless entry transmitter button, a message containing the current battery state of the transmitter is sent to the remote control door lock receiver (RCDLR) along with the commanded keyless entry function.

Conditions for Running the DTC

A keyless transmitter button is pressed.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

The DTC sets after 3 consecutive low battery signals from the same programmed transmitter.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The keyless entry system is inoperative.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

The DTC is cleared when a normal transmitter voltage signal is received from the programmed transmitter that set the DTC.

Diagnostic Aids

The keyless entry transmitter used in the 2-Way Advanced Remote Start System is unique to the system. When servicing or replacing a transmitter, ensure that the correct transmitter is used. The correct transmitter part number can be found in the Accessory section of the parts catalog. Attempting to replace a 2-Way Advanced Remote Start transmitter with a regular service part may result in a failure to program the transmitter.

 

@ 09LT2: None of that really applies since he doesn't have a DTC displaying; just a low battery warning.

@ TiggersHHR: Are you certain that the replacement bateries are fresh?

 

Based on the assumption that the batteries installed in the fobs were fresh, short of checking them with a VOM/Multimeter, you might want to try unhooking the negative battery cable for a minute or two.

I hate unhooking the battery as a solution for problems since it seems so inelegant, but in this case it might be worth a try. It sounds like one of those electronic glitches that may be best cured by cutting the power to the vehicle momentarily.

 

Reboot, for some reason it works to clear the cobwebs sometimes.

 

Thanks everyone for the information. Yes - the batteries were fresh. I guess that I will try diconnecting the battery - that is when it gets above freezing outside. Hope that a reboot will work.

 

YOU HAVE TO REPROGRAM THE FOB.......it has a memory of the last battery that was installed...so if the last battery was running low it would of triggered the message and NO MATTER how many new batteries you would of installed into the FOB...the message would of remained until the FOB was reprogrammed.....FACT!!

 

Others in this thread (from 2012) have had a different experience. So, evidently not "FACT".
Usual cause of the battery low message is a non-GM replacement fob.
The fob is not programmed, the car is programmed..
