Red face Coolent leak

My hhr with the 2.2l coolent level in the anti freeze overflow tank is dropping by about an inch every 5,000 miles. Has anybody else have this problem?

I'll have to actually remember to look, although mine is a 2.4l. Mine could've dropped by 4 inches.

Yes, it's hot here. Seems to be normal.

An inch every 5000 miles seems excessive. I would suspect a leaking head gasket. Of course, it's not super hot here, either.

Make sure you're comparing the cold level to cold or hot to hot. The level is lower when the coolant has cooled down. When the engine is running, the coolant does expand some.

I don't think I've ever checked the level on the coolant overflow bottle since we've had our HHR. Probably should get back to checking stuff like that Monthly at least. jwb, There should be marks on your overflow bottle that say "Min" and "Max". Level shouldn't go much over Max when your engines hot, or much below Min when it's cold. If the level keeps dropping below the Min mark at the rate you're saying, something must be leaking somewhere for sure.
