coollant warning

When you scroll through the DIC with the info button it does say "COOLANT" with the coolant temp right after it... as in "COOLANT 180"
Never heard of it popping up as a warning all by itself.
If you scroll through to that readout and you see "COOLANT _ _ _" you probably have a thermostat problem. (most likely) or the wiring to the sensor. The analog gauge will also show 0 at the same time. Something the ECU didn't like about the coolant reaching proper temps in a proper amount of time. This will usually throw a code P0128... That may not give a check engine light right away.

OK, so where do you see 180?
My service manual talks about a coolant level switch, but never shows where it is.
There is a testing chart for it; in your case it says "replace it". But absolutely no clue as to where it might be! I am assuming it is an inclusion from another book that didn't get edited out.

was driving home and the word coolant poped up where the mileage shows up next day I checked the radiator and it was low added antifreeze drove it to store and back checked rad today it was low added more coolant and drove it again havent checked it yet the gauge reads a little past half way while driving the analog was reading from 176 up to 198

Either you are wrong about no leaks or you lost so much that you have to adding to get past the air bubble.
Not all leaks are liquid on the ground, sometimes a pin hole can leak a lot of steam. I would look at the cap on the unused nipple of the t-stat cover.

I don't think just the word "COOLANT" shows on the info bar. By the owners manual, the warning that would appear would be for "COOLING MODE"
(not sure how it appears/is spelled out. Mine has never been in that mode.)
If it was indeed into the cooling mode, then it was most likely overheating.
You need to find the reason for the low coolant.

The HHR can only take one thing: Dexcool. I would recommend a flush and fill with Dexcool only
