Cruise Control Surging

Cruise Control Surging
Is there a thread about the Cruise surging when you push resume?
When I hit resume after slowing more than 5 MPH it almost red lines my car. I'm hitting 6500+ RPMs every time I resume.

When I use the resume function on my car, the cruise always reacts very gently, building-up speed slowly. I never experienced a surge like you mention.

I realize this is an old thread but in searching for this issue with my cruise control, I came across it. I have this issue also. My cc works but when I push resume, my rpms go up and the engine sounds really high-pitched. Any ideas?

It seems like if I am between 5-10 mph that the cruise control will slowly resume my current speed. Anything more than they then my transmission kicks down and the engine will speed up until it hits my set speed. However my Ford does the same thing too.

And if you hold down the RES+ button for more than a second (which is all that is needed for it to resume back to your previous set speed), yes the engine rpm will rise dramatically and the car will move like a scalded cat. That is pretty much the norm for most cruise controls.

Have you read the https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...+owners+manual ?

Thanks for the replies. I have read the manual. I was reading it before I even had the car home with me. This just doesn't seem normal to me, as my others cars with CC have never done this. I just don't use the resume button at all now in the HHR. The CC works great without the resume button.

The resume button does one of 2 things.
If you stepped on the brake to drop out of CC, it will attempt to get you back to the previously set speed (very quickly), unless you dropped below a threshold (35 MPH, I think).
If CC is currently active pressing and holding the resume button will accelerate the car and hold the new set point that you release it at (if you increased by more than 2-5 MPH, otherwise it drops back to the previous setting).
If that is not what you mean, then I think you have a transmission problem. Or maybe a flex pipe problem.
Pressing the resume button should result in an increase of speed, not noise or RPM alone.
