Explain to me how this could be a warranty problem. How could anyone blame this on GM? This is not a warranty problem. If the engine suffers any problems down the road GM should not be responsible. Now isurance on the other hand , if you have coverage.

The engine should turn over. It is possible the starter is also fried from trying to start a siezed up engine. Maybe all of the oil drained out while you were parked and the drive just finished it off. Probably engine time. Or maybe what ever you hit also damaged some wiring. Either way your comprehensive insurance should cover it.

What Southern Califoria dealership was this at?
(funny side note: ad banner on the bottom of this thread at the time of my reply is for www.GM-warranty-online.com)

They pulled the engine, and tried to turn it with a wrench. nothing. Guess it is seized.

I would say that it takes more than a mere scrape to crack, burst, or rupture a oilpan of any kind. And one that is a designed structure of the engine even more hit needed. And i would say that a piece like this would crack before being punctured, or at least chunk out. So anyway I wouldnt think gm could have prevented this. Insurance... Wait for that turbo engine and put that in it. just kiddin. sorry for your luck. John

If that happened to me, you can bet i would have my car sitting at the service door, ready for GM to put a new motor in it. But, then again, that is how i look at it.

If I simply drove into a telephone pole , I guess could blame GM for not having an accident avoidance system that would have took over driving for me and prevented me from hitting the pole!
Anyway back to the issue I hope insurance will cover the motor.

Hold up, what is so funny ? Im not trying to start an argument here. I say he tells them to replace it if the oil pan does not look to bad. What can they say, no ? I actually do warranty work for the dealerships and know first hand they cover some things you would not imagine. Say paint chips. If you live on a gravel road, you will obviously have chips. What does the dealership do ? Paint every piece of the car that is chiped. This gets expensive, especially with Cadillacs when you have to paint the whole side of the car. If the dealership will cover it, why not let them ?
