Dead Short on Radio Circuit

First posting here.

The 15 amp fuse on my radio circuit (I think it is #23 on the fuse block on the passenger of the hump) keeps frying. It is so bad I can't even put a fuse without it arcing and popping (w/o the ignition on.) This also knocks out my remote door opener. A mechanic friend says it is a dead short.

Anyone have this issue that can lead me to a possible cause?

Thanks in advance.

Huxley

P.S. - I really like this little car but at 28K miles it has had MORE then it's share of problems with shifter, brakes, fuses, front suspension, etc. BTW - mine is '06 HHR LT2 and I am in the midwest.

Did you have the dreaded water leak on the passenger side butyl patch? That may have caused a time related problem with grounding.
