Door chime keeps chiming
hello everyone,
I have searched the forum and the faq's and cannot find a solution...
When I take my key out of the ignition and open the door to get out my door chime sounds. I have my keys in my hands, headlights are on auto, dome light is off, radio is off, seatbelt is off, all other doors are closed. I can only imagine that something is still on that I can't locate or turn off. It has done this once before and the next day my battery was shot. I have replaced the battery and did not have the problem for about 2-3 weeks, now it has returned.
Help!!
BTW, 2008 2.0L.

First thing, do the headlights go off after 50-10 minutes? Do you leave the headlights on auto or do you turn them on when you drive?
The first night I had my 2008 LT I had not had a chance to read the OM and did not understand auto headlights. I drove 700 miles at night, got home at 4 A.M., at around 6 A.M. I heard somebody tap on their horn in my driveway. Turns out the headlights were on and that horn beep was the battery warning.
Could be the power retention system malfunctioning. Brake pedal hanging up on the switch.

Hi FSU Noles,
I can surely understand your concern for why your vehicle is behaving this way. Are you planning on taking it into your dealership to get it looked at? We are here and happy to help in any way we can. Feel free to PM us your name, contact information, VIN, current mileage, and preferred dealership if you would like us to look into this further.
Sincerely,
Jonathan A.

My headlights are on auto. I have had this car for 4 years and never had this problem. I bought a new car and the HHR has been sitting but I still start it and drive it once a week or so. I can check the brake pedal but the brake lights are not on.

I completely turned off the automatic headlights and the chime stopped. After 4 years I am not sure why that would be a problem - but as I said, this was only the 2nd time it did this so I can't be 100% sure of the fix.
