Mine does this sometimes. Does the gear shift click real loud when this happens, and does the transmission shift harder?

Same problem here

This started on Sunday. I checked the DIC and nothing changed. It usually locks when in Drive and unlocks when in Park. Stopped doing that.

My hubby also noted hard shifting but that has since stopped.

And now when I hit the brakes while driving, I can hear a clicking noise in the gear shift area.

Calling the dealership TODAY!

A related question, if you hit unlock to let someone in or out while staying in gear, do the locks automatically re-lock after you start moving again? I noticed this feature on several of my past GM vehicles but I haven't noticed it present on my HHR. If I remember correctly I think I ended up driving along with the doors unlocked.

The doors should relock once you start moving again....If you unlocked while in gear to let someone in.....This is an option you can find on the DIC.... just like the horn honking when you hit the lock for the second time.....If you cant find it on the dash yourself then bring it to the dealer they will do it for you and charge you $50......I know its on there unless they got rid of it for the 08's but i highly doubt it....This may be a new safety standard or something....then i dont know how to fix it.....

On the 06....

Once the doors are unlocked while in gear, they will need to be relocked again by either manually locking all 4 doors or hitting the lock button on either front door, or by putting it in/out of park again. Not a option on the DIC to change either.

There are at least 2 options for door lock in the dic.
1. all door unlock when put in park
2. driver door unlock in park

you can also set the lights on remote, horn, lights flash, delay door lock.

most of these options were on the 06.
