See this is just nuts. Do people really think they know more than the company that built the vehicle? Why even ask the question? Why would the manufacturer use a filter on their vehicles that restricts oil flow. They are not completely clueless.

I'm not nuts, well not yet anyway The bottom on the Delco (Hengst) and Wix designs appears to partially cover the oil port. The bottom on the Supertech, Fram, Purolator does not. Does it matter? Probably not. But the design difference is there.

on the flip side though you get much more exposed media with the OEM vs the Fram or ST (on the inside)

As you said who knows if it makes a diff

It would be cool if we could get a clear cap for the cartridge canister so we could see the filter in action.

I would buy one for sure. Not sure if a lexan type transparent could meet the specs for the filter cap though (heat range, torque tolerance of threads, plus overall strength).

It would only work until you fired the engine and the flow of oil covered the lid obscuring the view.

Why wouldn't it work? Unless you are poring black tar back into your engine when you change the oil. Granted it wouldn't stay clean enough to watch for very long because of the detergents in the oil but it should stay clear long enough to see what is going on.

It wouldn`t work the same way heavy rain obscures your view while driving and thats a clear fluid. But hey, prove me wrong. No biggie.

I had the filter compartment open tonight and I think I have the flow routing figured out anyhow. I believe the u-shaped port on the compartment floor to be the exit port. The entry port is at about the ten o'clock position (roughly) about an inch or so (again, roughly) from the top edge of the compartment. It is much larger. If my camera wasn't broken I'd have taken a photo.
