Eibach Spring Problem

I was doing some routine maintenence and look what I found! The bottom of the right front spring had completely cracked off.

Now here comes the fun part....trying to get Eibach to honor their million mile warranty. It first started with a call to their customer service dept. They procede to tell me that I have to go through the distributor that I bought the springs from. Ok, whatever I tell myself..... Then I asked "well how does your warranty situations work?" He then tells me that when the distributor that I purchased from calls Eibach, we will give him a part number to buy 1 spring. (I thought to myself 1 spring?...those cheap bastards. How can you only change 1 side when the other spring has almost 50,000 miles on it. It surely isn't going to sit very even.) Then what usually happens is the distributor will charge you for the 1 spring, you then have to get it changed out (at my expense) and send in (at my expense also) the broken part to R&D for testing. Then I ask "how long will it take to make a determination if the spring is faulty or not?" Eibach's reply......are you sitting down? 60 days!!!! WTF?

Now is when you get to see how good the customer service is from the place where you buy your goodies....If it's any good, what they should do is get parts out to you first and worry about credits, being reimbursed, and so on later. Fortunately for me, I bought my stuff from Brad @ NeverEnoughAuto....He stepped up to the plate and did exactly that! Now I had to agree that if he got me a "whole set" of replacement springs, I had to have them changed out and shipped back to Eibach by a certain date....No problem, you do me a solid, I'm going to return the favor. So the moral of this story.... Be sure to inquire about the customer service of the people you do business with, it could be worth the couple bucks more that you end up paying.

In conclusion....I really think that the 1st set of springs were ****ty from the get go. I changed out all four springs and either the Eibach's go bad in 50,000 miles or they have improved their springs from the first set I bought. This set rides 1000x better that the others ever did!....Just thought you might like to know....Regards

Thanks for the heads up. That could have made a dangerous situation. Were the other springs cracked anywhere but not broken?

I've decided that customer service and accountability is gone with big companies. I'm so dissapointed in GM right now I feel like someone hit my dog.

Thank god for the good guys like Brad that are still out there.

The other springs "seemed" to be ok, but who knows? I'm just glad I found it before it turned into a dangerous situation as you mentioned.

Do you think you might have gotten the springs for the Cobalt?

Not from what I have read. The HHR is heavier and needs a heavier spring.

You believe everything a company says? Cigarettes are good for you!!!

GM lists the parts numbers for both cars as being different numbers.

If they are the same wouldn't they have the same part number?
