Electrical problem or my car is haunted.
I started my car and it went crazy. The security light came on, as well as the check engine light. All of the gauges started bouncing up and down. The power steering went out and the transmission would not shift correctly. It kept saying low fuel/power steering. The coolant temperature read -42. lol. After getting it towed to the dealer Friday I went to check on it today and it started and drove fine. I checked my fuses and relays. Some of them were loose, but not horribly so. I also noticed a bolt on the side of my engine was rubbing into my wiring harness. The dealer is looking into it Monday for me. I know some other people have had this problem. What did the dealer have to do to fix it? If they can't reproduce the problem they tend to not believe there is one. I think its probably a loose harness, but I'm afraid it's something more.

Just wondering did you buy it new? Are the electrical problems just, now, showing up?
Unfortuneately the 2006 HHR's were plagued with electrical problems. I have one....but have not had the problems that others have encountered.
But, as you suggested, it could be a harness connection problem.

The exact same thing happened to my SS a few months back. There's a thread in the problems forum about it. In my case some wiring was not secure, and was in contact with moving parts. The wires were worn through, causing shorts. "Serial data/dlc/star connector wiring" was the culprit.

Can you post a pic of where the wiring is exactly, or describe where it is located exactly under the hood. I want to inspect mine.

That was not the problem. The mechanic picked the harness apart and couldn't find anything wrong with it. He is stumped. He's trying to make the car do it again, but you know how that is. It sits at the dealership another day...
