Emissions Light and Hard Shifting

Emissions Light and Hard Shifting
I'm on a roll, y'all! This is my 2nd thread... WHOO HOO!!
2007 HHR
So, my emissions light has been on for some time now (which causes my remote start not to work - not fun in the summer). I've had this issue before and brought it into the dealership when it was still under warranty. I can't remember at this point, but I think they said it was something to do w/ a fuel sensor or injector... and they replaced it. Well, a few years later, and it's happening again. The light used to go on and off at different times. It's been on for it's longest stint now (about 6 months).
Now, my car has started to shift hard, especially on inclines. I bought some transmission fluid stuff that says it's for "hard shifting," but I don't know where to put it... I checked my manual and searched online. From my understanding, I have to get under the car?
I know, guys, I'm not a "car girl," but I'm quickly becoming one - so where to put this transmission stuff really has me confused, mostly because I would assume it should be simple.
Looking forward to some insight!

Not familiar with an "emission light". Could you be talking about a Check Engine Light (CEL) ?
If it's a CEL, then you need to have the codes read to determine where the problem is. Posting up the code numbers: ex: P0001, P0002, would help us to help you.
Regarding the hard shifting. DO NOT put any transmission fluid "stuff" in the transmission. The hard shifting is most likely caused by a CEL. The cars computer detects a problem(CEL) and goes into a power reduced or safe mode. One of the by products of power reduced mode is the transmission will shift abruptly.
Take care of the CEL issue and it should clear up the transmission problem.

The transmission is technically a sealed system. That is, they make it hard to change or add your own fluid. There is no dipstick tube to pour fluid in.
Anytime you get into additives that make claims that fixes some problem, all that is, is a band-aid. You need to fix the issue.
As fireman said, get the codes first, and once that's fixed, most likely the hard shifts will clear up.

x2 - and just almost any auto-parts store will read the codes generated by the CEL for FREE!!! :) Just made sure you get the actual code (ie: P0300, and not the description ie: engine misfire).
