The factory system appears to already be a cold air intake, as it appears to draw air from outside the engine compartment, i.e. the fore area of the passenger front fender inboard bulkhead serves to help isolate the end of the intake duct from hot under-hood air. How much heat the air takes on from heat-soak of the factory setup perched atop the engine is another matter. But technically it appears to source "cold" air from outside the engine bay.

4. Replace with friendlier, better looking, better performing cold air intake.

It's also designed to last for 50,000 miles, reduce underhood noise and vibration, and provide an efficient intake system for the engine. I've yet to see ONE aftermarket "cold air" (read: extremely HOT underhood air) intake that can match the OEM's performance in all three categories.

Besides, I've yet to see a quick-lube lackey bring my old filter in to show me how dirty it is and how I have to replace the perfectly good filter after only 1,000 miles.

I avoid jiffy lube joints like the plague. I call them "iffy lube" because you never know if they did the job right. Plus, the filters they use can be really low end. If I'm not going to change my own oil, then I would use a reputable full service repair garage or a dealership service dept.
