Engine electric fan keeps running when I cut off A/C
#11
Thanks to Everyone that has replied, Let me try & be more clear. HHR sat overnight in the garage, next day to test the fan, I started up the engine & hit the A/C to see the fan activate, it did of course,
& in a minute or so I cut off the A/C & was hoping to see the fan stop, it did not, now I never let the engine get up to temp, that is why the 130F, I never even pulled out the garage.
I thought it should surely stop @ low temp.
Every time I am coming home, I cut off the A/C about 1/2 mile from home, to dry out the vents etc. Doing this with external fresh air always on I can feel the air warming & see the temp digital readout raise to 190 or 195F, by time I am parking. This is how it has worked since '09,............... but Saturday it didn't warm up, so when I got in the driveway I opened hood & fan was still running & A/C compressor was OFF. Temp was 185.

It seems like this was discussed on here last year.. I could be and probably am wrong, but I thought the fan runs regardless of the A/C once it comes on with the A/C (as opposed to high coolant temp) until the key is cycled off. At the time someone (maybe me) opined it could be because the engineers figure it must be hot outside to run the A/C anyway and the driver may turn the A/C back on, so they left it on til the engine is shut off.
I'd rather have it be on and not needed than have it be off when it is needed.

I appreciate your input, & agree I'd rather have fan running that not.
It's just odd that is is behaving differently since Saturday... But I will add that recently our temps outside have been brutally hot & high humidity. Not our norm either.
Not sure if this is related at all or not: https://www.chevyhhr.net/forums/gene...ne-else-60647/

Could be, Thanks. I had a great day today, my ride ran fine as usual, & seems the fan was even working as I know it to be "as normal".
Maybe the old battery was starting some UN-wanted activity ?

Although I will miss the 6 screw caps on top, 4 of which were hidden under the decal, which Donbrew posted about removing the decal to access them. Learned something new there. Thanks Don.
