Engine Noise Question.....
Hi everyone, I reeally am glad I bought an HHR! Everything has been good up till now. Problem: noise on acceleration, and pretty much all of the rest of the time. Is this serious?

Welcome to the site.
"Noise on acceleration" is waaay to vague of a description. Add some more details such as what kind of noise(thumping, whining, scraping etc.) Also, where it seems to come from(engine area, exhaust, front, back etc.)
A random guess would be a busted flex pipe. Do a search for flex pipe and you'll find numerous threads about it.

I consolidated everything into one thread.
As mentioned above, it could be a leaking flex pipe so give this thread a read by clicking the link below.....

If the noise sounds more like a bicycle chain being dragged across something metal, that could be a failing timing chain or chain tensioner. So listen carefully to the passenger side of the engine with the hood up for a buzzing/clattering sound. A failing chain, chain guides, or tensioner are potentially catastrophic failures which will destroy the engine if not caught in time.
I'd suggest having it checked professionally.
P.S. to the forum!
