help, what is causing? is it just because it is below zero? car won't go about 12 mph. several hours later temp over 20+ degrees, check engine light is still on but no longer getting power reduced indicator. any clues?

to the forum!

Take your HHR to the nearest auto parts store and have them "pull the codes", most if not all parts stores will do it for free.

Once you get the trouble codes, post them up here and then we can get you pointed in the right direction regarding what may be wrong with your vehicle.

Unfortunately, without the trouble codes, we'd be guessing at best.

Also, would be beneficial to know the year, engine, trans. and mileage.

Well my psychic abilities, and a quick check of her profile tell me it's a 2006 LT.

We'll have to wait on engine size, transmission, and mileage.

It might just be the wire loom into the throttle body, somebody posted a video of that one the other day

Or, ice on the throttle plate or any of the other moving parts.

Hi mjr,

I'm sorry to hear that you're experiencing power reduction during this cold weather! Were you planning on taking it to your dealership to have it checked out? I would be happy to assist in setting that up for you. If this is something you would like me to do, please PM me your full name and contact information, VIN, current mileage, and preferred dealership.

Sincerely,

Jonathan A.

If the poster asks "is it just because it is below zero?", the best answer to the questions posed is likely - it's best you take it to a shop you trust, to let them do the diagnostics and subsequent fix/repair.

I seem to remember somebody having a problem with the the ABS in very cold weather because the brake fluid shrinks or the level sensor malfunctioned. This is meaningful because if the brakes are not right the engine will go into "don't drive" mode.
