Yes, the door was mismatched when I bought it. I didn't notice at the time. Dirty during test drive, cleaned up and under flourescent light indoors at delivery. My fault, sue me.

Sure didn't pay $16,880 for mine... And dolled it up? Please...

I'm glad you like your car. I like mine too.

Keep up the good work. Contributions like yours make this site what it is.

Wink Grebner Motors

Hey Mark, I just sent you a PM regarding my dealer connection on body shop work, which is at Grebner Motors in Kewanee Illinois. His name is Rich Price, and people who have seen his work say that it is better than factory at the very least. He has started getting business from the Chicagoland suburbs, as his reputation is starting to spread beyond the small town of Kewanee Illinois.

If anyone lives geographically near Kewanee Illinois and needs body shop work, let me know! You will not be disappointed!

Jeremy.

Check the vin tags on that door and see if they match the car vin and the rest of the panels. I wonder if the car got damaged right before delivery and the dealer had another one that color but a different variance and just switched the door to facilitate delivery.

Looks like the door is OK, the entire rest of the HHR was damaged and repainted for sure.

Could be Me or shadow, but it appears your bumper is a different color also...

I remember another thread on here about mismatched paint. I think it was an issue with some Spring editions. If I recall someone indicated that the HHR panels are all prepainted at source and sent to the factory so with panels being painted at multiple locations there are bound to be some problems pop up WRT paint. It does not necessarily mean the car was ever damaged.

Typically, the only parts that are pre-painted at the source are the plastic parts, such as the bumpers. But I'm not familiar enough with the HHR production to know exactly how they operate. The "source" for the doors would most likely be a GM stamping plant, which do not have paint shops.

And I think it needs to be clarified that "damage" does not mean the vehicle was in any sort of accident. It could be anything from a door panel not fitting correctly once all the trim was added, to a bad initial paint job on a part (robot messing up and missing part of a panel), to a minor scratch caused during the production process.

GM/Chevy factory paint has more orange peel in the finish than almost any other manufacturer I looked at.
You wouldn't have to be a great body shop to improve on that!
