Mines not so much a ticking noise as a squeaking noise. It started when I the temps got REALLY cold and I had to leave the car sitting out. At first, I just blamed it on the frigid temps (cars make lots of weird noises when they have been sitting out in -20 temps), but last night I noticed that it was still squeaking a bit after everything was nice and warmed up. I suspect dry bearings on the shaft that drives the blower motor.

@finnhhr, I’m sorry to read about the noise your experiencing with the HHR. Do you plan to replace the filter on your own? Please, let me know how things are going with this.

filter was eaazy-job, just open glove box, peep inside with flashlight, open 3 tabs and out she comes, pushed new filter in.
ticking sound is milder, but i am afraid its not completely gone. is the fan motor hard to replace? any recommendations what to get? -and is it only the motor or does one need relay too? motor brands TYC,Ac delco, four seasons, vdo,delphi- which it is originally quite likely. but NOT delphi since it failed so soon

You have to cut the old motor out, just use a real sharp knife. Not too hard just have to lay on the floor to do.

yes, buy the motor first, & you can see how it goes in, and I think find pic here or on the web.
