A friend ofmine has changed many flex pipes and is a mech. he will change it next week and has a tig welder cost for 12 pack of beer, yippee.

Today I got a quote to install the flex-pipe $100.00, since my driveway is not level and is inclined I may just pay the muffler shop the $100.00???

If I lived close I would weld it for a 12 pack....but we are on opposite sides of the USA

I told my buddy about getting a quote from the muffler shop, hes not too happy as he really wants to do it, the part gets here on tuesday.

Does he have a level driveway Jay? He should know that Vehicle + Jack Stands + Slope = Squashed Mechanic.

Thats what scares me not level ground but he wants to do it, I think I will let the muffler shop do it. next month I will have him chang the struts as I will buy from Rock auto the Fe5 struts says ha will charge me $40.00.

He can tack weld it while it's in the car, remove it and do the final welding, and then install it. There are safe ways to work under a car while on a slope.

He looked at my driveway and says no problum, the muffler shop say he will have to replace the ox-sensor?? my friend says he can save it. so monday I will buy the 2 gaskets, and will do it on wednesday, hope all goes well.

They make a replacement flex looks more like wooven wire cloth. This cut and weld will last a long time, I have fixed about 3 of these HHR's and just sold one that had 192,000 and the pipe is still holding and the vehicle pasted emissions. Should cost you arount $210.00 for the labor and the part.

Shouldn't be a problem. The dealership was able to reuse the 0² sensor on our HHR when they replaced the catalytic converter. I've been able to get them out intact on other vehicles I've worked on. As long as he has the right socket for it.
