I took my hhr to the mechanic on Saturday and they ran the codes and told me that my car was running lean and that I had a crack in the flex joint. Well they wanted to charge me almost 800 bucks because the part alone in CA is 600 bucks. Thanks to this thread I called my local Chevy dealer, explained to them the problem and they told me to bring it in that it is covered under the EPA warranty because there is no manufactures part made to fix this particular problem. Thanks guys!

 

welded mine, but didn't quite get it lined up. now when in gear, stopped with brakes applied it rattles on cross member. slip to neutral, rattle stops.

 

I would suggest continuing your search for a shop to do the welding. I't really a simple task. I am very happy with the job done by my (privately owned) muffler shop and he had no problem doing it, as a matter of fact he said he had done many of them and never had one return with a problem. Come on down to FL and get it done on vacation. Got the flex pipe part online from Rock Auto in 2 days for $35.
