Flex pipe help

2007 hhr 2.2 my flex pipe is leaking and Midas wanted to charge about 450$ to change the whole pipe to the converter end .. I had search about this here and I know you can weld in one but there telling me it won't last long .. So does anybody know I good price for the flex and converter all in pipe? I've had just the flex end replaced by our local muffler shop on the '06, it's lasted 300,000 miles and counting.

The folks at Midas are trained in the art of the "Up-Sell", and of course they'll say that just replacing the flex end makes a crappy job, they want you to spend $450...it's their job.

Try taking it to a local independent muffler shop, ask around about who does really good work, and save yourself some cash.

I've had that repair done on two other vehicles (not HHR's) that have a very similar setup. In both cases, once the flex section was welded in, I had no further problems with them during the rest of ownership. I would have done that with our HHR but it was still under warranty.

Same here. The manifold was cracked on my 2.4L. Midas wanted 200+. The manifold was 100 at junk yard. While replacing the cracked manifold the flex pipe was found to be leaking as well. 60 for a new one. Two years ago I put a new pipe on from resonator back. It needs replacing again. And the coolant monitor is showing blanks. Good thing this "GM" was givin to us or it would be on the list of things for spring cleaning.

AbovePar03 , Coolant monitor problem would be the thermostat, please replace with a genuine ACDelco stat , the aftermarket ones can cause this issue and the OEM is long in the tooth even if it's a 2011, and be sure to use Dexcool, the green stuff is uncool!!
Your cracked exhaust manifold could be from the cracked flex pipe is sour and the flange back replacement was that an OEM pipe , mine is 8 years and over 200,000 miles and no problems.

Most likely the thermostat is bad(jammed open). Not an uncommon thing on any 10 year old car.
