Fluttering Locks - Slips into Neutral

While driving my car slipped into neutral and my locks started locking and unlocking rapidly (fluttering) - all doors. Checked battery. Battery is good. Drove the next day. It drove fine for about 30 minutes. Then it started happening again. After car sat for several days battery was still good but weaker. Sat a couple more days, now battery is dead.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

to the forum!

How did you check the battery?

Did you just check the voltage with a VOM, or did you have it load tested?

It sounds like you have/had a failing battery or charging system issue, low voltage will cause an HHR to go into "nervous breakdown" mode, and all sorts of odd behavior will ensue.

Your first step would be to charge the battery and then have it load tested if you haven't already.

Welcome to the site. I think the battery is bad but you said it was checked.

I say that because many have had their car do weird electrical things, including my panel. New battery no more weird stuff.

How old is the battery ?

Wait a minute!

The transmission spontaneously shifted itself into neutral? I don't know how that is possible.

Battery dead after sitting a few days indicates a worn out fellow.

You didn't state it in the 1st post but your profile says you have a 2006. Is this correct? If so, and it's the original battery, then I would surely suspect an 8 year old battery could be the problem.

P.S. Welcome to the site.

Hey collinsrhp,

Welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place to share your passion for the HHR! I can understand why you would be concerned over these symptoms that your vehicle is displaying. Is this something you were planning on tackling yourself, or were you planning on consulting with your local dealership? If I can be of any assistance feel free to reach out via PM.

Take Care!

You could go back to AZ and have it load tested.
