The FOB has become a dealer programming item with the HHR and you can't do it like on some of the other cars. I have a 02 Impala also and was able to reprogram an extra fob myself, it was spelled out step by step in the owner's manual. Now you can program a KEY after it is cut and that info is in the manual.

Cheaper and quicker to program at a Locksmith.

Is the car needed to program key remote entry? What information should i give to have the fob programmed by the locksmith? VIN is enough? Another words can i order the fob already programmed and get it by mail? Thank You :)

No, the programming mates the fob id number in the BCM. Fob has to be programmed with the vehicle.

Even when programming a replacment FOB, is it correct that you will also have to reprogram your original Fob?

I even got a couple extra cheap off of ebay and had them all done at the same time. Can't have too many extra sets of keys imo.

My understanding from reading this Forum:
The FOBs can be programmed by a Dealer or a properly equipped Locksmith. Most on this forum say the Locksmith is less expensive - I haven’t checked yet. All FOBs have to be present when adding any FOBs as the programming of additional FOBs erases the previous FOB programming entries. The number of FOBs the vehicle can be programmed for is ONLY four(4).

Keys, however can number up to ten(10) per vehicle. Those new keys can easily be programmed yourself by following the instructions in the Owners Manual or by other posts in this Forum.

This is all I know!
