Front end has Clunking noise-help
Hello everyone, I'm woodycom from Burnet, TX and my HHR has started to make loud clunking noises from the front end when going over bumps--Where do I start in getting rid of this annoyance.
Thanks Woodycom

Hard to say....if you JUST say a front clunk noise. But many threads are dedicated to this area. A simple search on this forum yielded this list of threads......

providing more infor will definitely help.....speed, turning, applying brakes, over slightly or heavy bumps in the road, etc.

I can look into your issue if you private message me your name, vehicle identification number, and current mileage. I hope we can get to the bottom of your concern.

I've had this same problem with my 2008 HR... we had it since 2009 and has 83000... I had a front end repaired and now it seems to be slowly coming back.
But, still love my HHR, so much so that DH just sold his 2004 HHR and go a 2008 HHR Panel... we're 2 2 HHR family... but I don't like my front end problem that might be back????

clunking front end
I'm having same problem, 2006 HHR, Investigated yesterday and found control arm Bushing's, both sides, cracked and arm moves around when prying on it. Parts are $15.00 but looks like a lot to replace them plus need a press??
Any body done this yet???

i would check the rubber bushings for the lower control arm....especially the rear one.

had a machine shop press the new bushings(use the moog bushings). but, i understand that it can be done with a large shop vise....

I've done this repair on mine. Almost all HHRs do this. It is an engineering flaw. You must replace the rubber sway bar bushings (not the tie bars at the end of the bushing that attach to the struts). Most dealers will claim ignorance and replace the tie bars, which does nothing. Replacing the bushings is fairly straight forward, but you will need some socket extensions and socket universal joints to reach the bolts that hold in the bushings. When you replace them, you'll notice about an 80% improvement, but it will slowly come back over time. This will need to be done every 40k miles or so, if you don't ever want the noises to happen. I just live with it, but I'm sure I'll have them replaced again, as it is pretty annonying.
